Tank pads

The purpose of a tank pad is to protect the motorcycle's fuel tank from abrasion caused by, for example, a riding jacket or pants. Pads applied to the sides of the tank protect the tank's sides and can also provide extra grip for track riding.

You don't need to ride very far before small scratches start showing up on the paint surface. So it can be classified as "mandatory" equipment for motorcycles — at least for models where the jacket makes contact with the tank, such as sportbikes, naked bikes, adventure/touring enduros, touring bikes, and other similar models.
